A Digital Printing Network

I am interested in a Versa Cam and would like as much input as possible. I am in the garment business and looked at it for this but also thought about maybe expanding into the banner and sign business also. I am going between the 30" and the 54". Don't know which way to go and what speed to go for? Any comments? Also, I'm looking for a laminator. Not sure what brand to go with because I am not familiar with them.

We currently use Royal Soverign laminators. Apprently they are working on a 30" pedal operated cold only unit as well. I hear its a few months from release though.

Thanks for the info. I am still looking for space to put the Versacamm in my shop. I sure wish that I could wiggle my nose and make another room appear!! Expanding is a scary thing at this point because of the economy. Although I do have people waiting for banners and some other things that I can do with the versacamm. I am also looking forward to getting back some of my creativeness and using this to help. I am curious to speak with you Josh about laminators also.

Imprintables will be picking up a line of cold laminators - we're opting out of the hot since they aren;t really used for apparel applications or with any of the non-apparel media that we sell.

Lauren,
I am currently travelling so that was and is the delay. This link might shed some light about the two processes. I hope this helps, as for me most of my applications will do fine with cold. http://ezinearticles.com/?Choosing-Between-Hot-and-Cold-Lamination&id=917888

Lauren,
Cold lamination will cover 99% of what you will need. I do not know of any hot lamination specific items that you would run through a VersaCAMM. I will see what I can find!

Thanks Irving. What is the difference between a cold laminator and a hot laminator? In what applications would you need a hot and what applications would you need a cold?

Greetings Lauren, I have been using the VP540 for roughly 6 months and found it to be a reliable machine. i have used it for all of the things you are interested in and have posted some pictures of some of my work. When I was purchasing my concerns were similar to yours and I can answer you this way - you can use smaller rolls with the 540 but not longer rolls with the 300. As for SP vs VP - it will depend on whether you want to do other things while you print or print, cut, finish and move on. So if you have a client base that want 2 feet signs and can wait until tomorrow, then the SP300 would work. If you will plan on marrying up multiple halves of signs, then again the SP300. However, if you easily require full bleed material up to 4 ft wide and like and adjustable head to take on various media and do not want to wait all day, then you would strongly consider the VP540. So with that said - your consideration would be how much do you want to spend and how much room you have to spare. As you see, I never mentioned garments because I have seen great garments from both machines. Garment material will not come larger than what would fit on a 300. I have been avoiding the laminator due to space and funding issues. But... the Diage which is located a few miles from my locations has a wonderful cold laminator that will handle the 54" media at a great price. Hope this helps your process and I am sure others will jump on and add their experiences.
