New Problem: Media crunching when printing

As we move along in learning our versacamm our new problem is the media keeps getting crunched as the heads go back and forth printing.  We are using imprintables spectra t shirt media that we heat press on shirts.  We have an old CJ500 that has been converted to a SC500.

Everything goes fine for a time but then the one edge of the paper gets crunched.  It is firmly on the rollers when printing begins.  Is there an adjustment of the head we need to make?

Di - Unfortunately I cannot change how the blog posts are threaded. i have even looked into removing blog posts from the site as they do not get seen much, but it is not allowed via the NING network. I usually recommend and try to push people into posting in the forum rather than a blog as blog posts get missed all the time and they have better response possibilities in the forum section. Most people do move their post over but some get missed. I will continue to look for a resolution.

Yeah your right Diane, but if that's what the guy has you got to make it work somehow, face it these newer machines aren't cheap. If he can get it to work for awhile and build up some cash maybe he can upgrade. Hey John Mueller, keep us posted and we'll try to help you.

Good luck to ya,

John, I hear you
If the machine was made without media clamps, it's scary to just go ahead and try to retro fit them
Who knows what could happen?
Then again, it's pretty scary thinking about printing without media clamps

Boo hiss on those SC500's

I'm sure there is a way to work around it maybe trimming the media edges if that's the issue, but if the machine was made that way, I'm sure it works. maybe the clamps were made to solve the problem with media being "scrunched/crunched" up as was mentioned earlier. If you do make modifications think it through first, ask yourself "what if" like will the head hit it or the sheet cutter? My previous life was a problem solver in the auto world I solved a lot of problems, but boy I screwed some stuff up also at first.

Not only you can't edit these blog posts but they show in reverse order which drives me bonkers

Steven, can't we do something?
A thread like this should be on the forum.......blogs should be maintained for totally different stuff

Hmm, can't edit these. Meant to mention, Steve or Irv may be able to recommend which clamps would be the easiest to adapt for your machine.

+1 on what Roland said, I've had this happen on both matte calendered vinyl and 13oz. scrim banner vinyl. If you can get a set for another machine, perhaps one that was made around not long after that one, you might be able to modify them to work.

I've sold my versacamm and delivered it yesterday...and while moving all the backstock of paper, vinyl, banner material, etc.-I realized that some of the rolls (on the floor carousel) had been dropped or put on the holder roughly, leaving a 'crinkled' edge that shows up about every 10 inches or so as it comes off the roll. I do have the media clamps, so this hasn't created a problem-but maybe it could be yours? Check both ends of the roll you are using-make sure it is still smooth and flat, not scrunched/crunched up.

lol, John, I just did the same thing!
And I found the same information
I briefly read through the users manual & setup instructions and it doesn't look like these machines have media clamps
Yikes!!!
That could be a horror story, huh?
I can completely understand the ends of the media crunching without them
Don't know what to say
........except to repeat
Yikes!!

Wow, I just looked up the CJ500 and the SC500 they are from Roland's early days and had to be converted to be able to use eco solvent inks and they did not come with print surface heaters unless converted, these machines are 10+ years old, Don't think any parts are available for those particular machines that we are suggesting, although I did watch a U-Tube video on it and it looks like the platen is the same but I would try to contact whoever you got this from and ask them who converted this machine and maybe they could help
