changing print caps on roland versacamm sp 300v

hi, all - newbie to this site needing help asap. I need to change the printcaps on my roland sp 300v ASAP and can't find video or anything on "how to" (just got the parts and cannot afford to mess this up - printer has been down a week already). Any advise/expert knowledge to impart? Thanks in advance!!

Also send a picture of your nozzle test print - if the nozzles are deflecting, then it can mean your head is failing. Not to worry folks use deflecting nozzles for a year or more. The proof will be in the pixs. The head lays down ink in passes so even with drops you do not necessarily see any faults. When it really starts failing then you need to start printing in high quality mode. Ink is cheaper than head replacement - so as long as you have acceptable quality keep printing. Congrats to you - trust me you will love your machine..

SUCCESS!! Thank you both SO much for posting - you were VERY helpful (along with 2 others locally via email and 1 in person) I'm learning about this more machine so little by little I'm less intimidated to work on it myself (just will always check 2-3x with more knowledgable people prior to doing anything new as I can't afford mistakes at this point). And now, I'll be able to help someone else if they have the same problem (and share the very helpful pdf I now have) The black is still "spotty" but I'm going to run some small stuff to see if it evens the color out.

I hate when work gets in the way of work.

thanks to you both, Butch & Irving..... I'll be finishing up (hopefully) this morning. Someone emailed me a pdf with instructions/diagrams to follow (easier for me) and I didn't have a pipe tool to remove the pump plate (and had to leave for my night job) so I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks SO much for the postings.

Sorry Irving - yes, there was NO M/Y printing at all yesterday after I tried your initial suggestion and I spent quite awhile trying to figure out how to take out the old/install the new cap top before seeing that the plate HAD to be removed.

Ok JoAnn where are with this process - I do not get this much time to replace so i would like to know where you are or are not. Thanks Butch for jumping in there. You did not respond to the recos and are doing the change so I am thinking you did and still drop outs.

The pump cover has the nickel size holes along the bottom. Look in the holes and youwill see 3 phillips head screws. Remove the screws with a magnetic screwdriver or similar tool, the cover will pull toward you for removal. When replacing take care to not pinch the pump lines.

I'm unsure how to access the pump - am I missing something? I have the captops exposed, the top off the capping station, etc, the 2 scews carefully put aside - but I'm afraid to just pull the unit out as I cannot see how the new one will attach correctly if I can't access the pump directly

Ok so here is my recommendation

- do a test print - check to see how many dropouts - lets say a lot (ink could be dried on printhead or cap station dried

-Move head to left by using menu to replace wipers or knife

-Pour cleaning fluid into capping station - let it soak a while - then pour some more but now tell the machine you finished changing the wiper so it can seat the head on the capping station

-It will do a normal cleaning and now you do a test print - if there is improvement - then you are on the right track and can repeat the process -

-seating the head on the capping station with fluid there will stop you from touching head manually

-You can put a swab directly to the head(s) just do not rub back and forth

- If the drop outs remain the same - then you need to change the capping station.

it is always good to take pictures and post - because we can look at your pictures and tell what is going on
