I have looking into sublimation over the past few weeks and have not been completly convinced that it will work for me. Fact is it just can't do as much as the versacamm. When I think about it, almost all of the garments we do are colored and not white. Since sublimation cannot do white on a light color it is at a huge disadvantage. It looks like the few light colors I can sublimate on would have to be printed with dark colors. I will be exploring more options with.sublimation to see what else it can do.

After careful consideration I have decided not to purchase a sublimation printer. The cons seem to outweigh thepros. It appears that any job that I could consider sublimating I can get done with print/cut or regular vinyl media. None of the sublimation dealers I spoke to were willing to give me a machine on a trial basis like I had with the Versacamm. If I had that I do think I could find a place for it, but without that,it was not worth the risk considering the poor quality of the printers and inks that I have read about others experiencing. Just a side note, I also looked a bit into DTG printers and it appears to me that technology is not up to par as a versitle machhine that can print on all types of fabric easily. The only DTG machine I found that I like was $50K and there is a local distributor and training center for it right down the street from me. However, it would take forever to re-coup 50 grand.

Hi Eric, I have been doing sublimation for a couple of years. What I have found is it is great for hard substrates in low quantities. I mostly do promotional items like car flags, mugs, water bottles lic plate frames ect. I will use alot of the gray's for T's and for sublimated apparel. My best advice to get in on the cheap is get a Epson WF1100 they run just over $100 and do 13x19 out of the box. Try Cobra High Temp inks and you should have a whole system for under $300 easy. I would stay away from the Ricoh's since they are still issues with them dying if you dont print everyday. Good luck sorry for the lengthy post.
