A Digital Printing Network

Just needing some expert advice. We are looking into purchasing an used sp300v, and we are going to inspect the equipment before making our big purchase. Needless to say our lack of experience makes this process a bit of a challenge.

We were hoping you could give us some advice as to the things we should be watching out for, or the things that should be in perfect working condition to make this a good buy.

Shoud we have a specific request to have a picture printed to inspect the quality of printing?

This printer has 120 motor hrs (feed) and 900 of motor hrs (scan)? Does it mean it was not used a lot?

What errors or flags should we be concerned with just by looking at the printer service report?

Are motor errors important (feed or scan)? Heater voltage errors?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

Thanks

You have some drops and some deflections. In your machine you have two heads. The Black and Blue share one and the Magenta and Yellow share the other. Drops are cleared up with cleanings - my preference normals. Deflections - you do have in black and cyan - will mean that ink is not being delivered where intended. Deflections are usually caused by head strikes and those would account for some of those errors and are normal. You have enough deflections - it will require a head replacement - appx 995 plus labor. This machine currently DOES NOT need a new head. Also if you have many more deflections than this you can print on high quality and still get good prints, but using more ink. Your magenta and yellow is spot on - and that probably was the new head you had on this machine. If you need to really know I will read the chart closer it would tell you.

If you want to PM me I can give you some more info but no need to be broadcasting here. Remember I am looking at a fuzzy nozzle test and reading a history report that is missing information. Hopes this helps - I did not notice any thing wrong or see any concerns.

This is a test print of a Versacamm I am looking to purchase.  I can clearly see where it isn't straight, but I don't know if that is normal or a red flag.  Can someone please let me know what they think of this test print.  Thanks.

Unfortunately, you need to be in the service menu to get a history report. If the seller has the code to get in (some folks do know how) then they can print the report. Here are some pointers, but not all inclusive:

If I am looking at a machine my concerns:

-Nozzle test - looking for no dropouts or few and deflections - a lot of deflections clear indicator of needing head replacement.

-Shot count - heads are rated for 6billion - less with head strikes (motor errors usually)

- Cleanings

Auto - Machine

Normal (should be used most) Medium (some issues) Powerful (why - waste of ink and some other problem and guessing that would work)

Captop & wipers - OEM ink and regular maintenance - will far outlast their expectancy - Know of a 300v never changed in 6 years,  and my 540 never in 4 years. SP&VPs are mules

Scan - printhead - left to right

Feed - media - up and down

You had one head replacement and the machine has low printing hours - went through a lot of cartridges (all those powerful cleanings)

So nothing glaring on report - Need to see

new history report

nozzle test - could be corrected with cleaning - bad - head replacement

calibration test - could be adjusted - bad - need tech

bi-directional test - could be adjusted - bad - need tech

print/cut test - could be corrected - bad - need tech

Manual will show you how it should look and adjust - seller should show you how to correct - if uncorrectable then a tech and equipment would be required

These are my .02 pointers

I am going to check out a used Versacam SP300V today.  Can someone tell me how to view/print the history report that is shown below.

Thanks.

shots are the same as firings - the wiper change number does not mean they have been changed that many times it just means that part of the maintenance process was accessed - you still need to get a test print and check nozzle firings for any dropouts and deflections

Thanks Butch for all that very helpful information.

I see in the report where the wiper has been replaced 28, is that a good number?. However I don't see where are the counts for caps and head replacements.

Is head firing the same as shot count?

Thanks for all the help

Check the test print for dropouts, check the history for number of head firings, check any records the owner has as to head replacements, caps, wipers etc.

Scan and feed hours are important but not as important as the condition of the printheads.

Motor errors are normally caused by media problems such as jerking during the cut process, or wadding up during the sheet cut process.

Heater errors on my machine usaully occur on really cold mornings when the machine is first turned on.

The machine should be relatively clean with good pinch rollers, blade assembly and come with the original VW cd.
