A Digital Printing Network

Hi everyone!
I'm having quality issues with my print work and I've narrowed it down to the profiles for media type. I'm using Express Print (for garment printing), the Versacamm VP-540i and VersaWorks version 4.4.0. I've used the following media profiles with varying amounts of successs:

Cad Color: Express Print- Grainy and has banding in the black

TTRH- small dragging marks (No hairs stuck in the printer)

Generic Vinyl 1 and 2- Banding

HTM1 and HTM2- dragging marks

I even tried GVWG (Calendered vinyl) and that worked for a while but now has dragging marks. The worst part is the Cad Color profile and the TTRH profile actually worked for a while before it quit working again. Any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix it? The machine has been cleaned multiple times and the dragging marks come and go which is how I ruled out the fiber or hair in the head area.

Ok - stop using sign vinyl profiles on your garment stuff
next - who ever is selling you express print should have the profile for it
- if not I would stick to the TTRH or try quick print
- dragging is not profile but dirt - profiles deliver ink and some more ink than others so check because the ink is hitting some dirt and dragging on the print and I am sticking by that - get a brighter flashlight
- also make sure your paper is not sitting on a heated platen too long and curling or bowing
- you need a manual cleaning so a machine clean will not work and definitely do not do a powerful or medium

it will help if you post or PM me a picture of a test print and the dragging
banding is profile or humidity or calibrations are off so also check your bidirectional simple - detail and the test after call calibration
If you had a head stike it could have knocked the setting off and cause your bad prints.

Alright!

I switched over to the Quick Print profile. I've done a calabration, a dot drop out test, and a bidirectional test (the detail one). Everything is on point. I've also cleaned the encoder strip (w/ alcohol wipes) and done a manual cleaning to no avail.

like all you did - but without you posting a picture - it will be shooting in the dark - all of us here are trying to imagine what you are seeing and with difference reference points I will assure no two of us are imagining the same thing.
BTW which machine are you using again.
VP-540i
sorry about the quality. that's the best i could get!!

Well the VP usually does not suffer from the Capstation issues being experienced by the VS folks right now.  Your picture is showing me nothing that I can help you with.

So my new suggestions are these with reasoning:

- print a different file - lets say one you created a vector on sign vinyl - and see how that prints

with the proper profile - if that works then you know your machine is fine

- next switch to a different garment vinyl and see if that works - for you can have a bad batch or your batch became spoiled

- try printing a different file on the same garment material maybe do this one before the previous one so the exercise is not changing media.

Best I can offer for now

I've used a fair share of Express Print from stahls and have experienced some of the same issues of grainey blacks and banding.  Usually, Express Print tends to print better when the machine is at its cleanest, wipers, print heads and scrapers.  I would try some Quickprint from Imprintables and see if you are having the same problems.  Overall, I would say Quickprint seems to print up better and if you are having the same issue with it then it might not be the material.

One note on Express Print, if you are looking for something that doens't have a glossy look to it, this is the stuff to use.  It is cheaper, but sometimes can be trickier to work with.  Gotta take the good with the bad.
