Hello all,
I have a older SP-300 with color rip. I am having a cutting problem when using the "Cut Only" option or Unit 4. Unit 1 or the Print / Cut mode cuts fine whether using it for print/cut of just cut only. I used 2 different computers to run the file and created different files so It can't be software and must be Hardware or a setting on the VersaCamm that needs attention.
Using The Cut Only unit or mode..
The file is a rectangle with no fill and just a cut line. size is 2" wide by 5 high. The 2" width cuts accurate but the 5" height cuts about .10" short so 4.9" When using a rectangle 2" wide by 15.5625" high, again the 2" is fine, but the 15.5625" is cut .3125" short or 15.25" If I run the files vertical so the longer ends run east/west (horizontally) and the short ends are north south (vertical) then the 2" height is cut short and the longer sides are accurate.
Again, if i run the file through the Print / Cut mode and because there is no fill, it will advance the media as if it is printing. Then pull the media back in and cut the rectangle. These cuts are accurate.
Probable confused you all with this so i have attached a image to hopfully clarify.
thanks Mike

Permalink Reply by Mike Richford on November 8, 2011 at 4:01pm I am confident the software isn't the issue because I used 2 different computers with color rip to run the file. If it was the software on the main computer the 2nd computer I hooked up would of cut the file correctly. It has to be the printer, either a hardware issue or the something in the menus.

Permalink Reply by Mike Richford on November 8, 2011 at 8:27pm Steve, I have to rule out The Color Rip software because I tried it on 2 different machines 2 different Color Rip's. Both have the same result.

Permalink Reply by Mike Richford on November 8, 2011 at 8:27pm Hi Irv,
If I print something (Unit 1) and then cut, its fine. And if i do a print and cut (Unit 1) with just a blank box no color fill and a cut line it will cut fine. The problem is if I use the Cut Only (Unit 4) I attached a screen shot. This unit is used for cutting colored vinyls (Avery A6) etc. You would think if
Unit 1: Roland VersaCamm SP-300 (CMYK , 360x720DPI) is working correct and
Unit 4: Roland VersaCamm SP-300 (Cut Only) is not working correct then it should be a software issue.
But I connected the printer to 2 different computers running Color Rip and both give the same results.
Permalink Reply by irving donaldson on November 8, 2011 at 9:20pm Mike I do not have a clue - now with that said - is there a settings in your CR sw (we have preference in VW) that allows us to dial in our measurements. So are you using inches but your machine is set to metric. Is it in that type of conversion that has it falling short? Although you just use it to cut - on the cut only machine put in some printable vinyle and do all of your checks - bi-direction and calibration and print/cut adjustment. Dollars to dounuts that is where the problem is. Those settings are still required for even cut only. Remember that scan takes care of moving left to right and feed is the media up and down. so if that is not dialed in the cut will be off. Do your print and cut to see how much short it is. Your overprint should be on the top and your scan settings are probably spot on.

Irv, I looked where you predicted the problem.
It was the Feed Adjustment in the Calibration menu.
Thanks!
