Sp300 ink drain when moving
We just brought home a used SP300v. While getting it upstairs we tilted it and lost ink out of the head (I think). When I turn on the printer the display says dry up of head. What to do now? I do not have any cleaning cartridges to start it as a new printer but will purchase some tomorrow. Do you think this is necessary? Another way to get ink into the heads?

Make sure all the covers are closed then do a head clean. On the control panel press power and cleaning at the same time, this will get you into the cleaning mode. Do a medium clean, this should get you going.
If the head was locked during transport you shouldn't have a problem. I moved mine 100 miles in a pickup, and was printing the next morning.

Yes the head was locked. I guess we assumed this would keep the ink in the head, but we really had to tilt on the stairs. I will try the cleaning you suggested.

It is fine. The prints I have made look good even though when doing a test print the black bars do not turn out good. The girl we bought the printer from told us she thought the black head was going bad but could still produce many good prints. She did give us an extra print head that she was told is good but needs to be flushed. Any ideas on this?
My husband thinks I am superwoman and can help to carry a 270 lb machine up the stairs. I am black and blue from the process!
I have been in the cut graphic business since 2000. I am an expert on piecing color logos together! This is my first step into the print and cut world.

Just did the medium clean and a manual clean. The black ink is running very low and the black is not testing good in the pattern test, but a print with black in it looks good.

Most 300v's have deflections and dropouts but continue to print well. When the prints start to look bad change your VW settings to high quality until you can do a head change.

I talked with the girl I got the printer from and she said the test print should not look like that and it look as if the black ink was out. She suggested 4 cleaning cycles after changing the black ink, but I still cannot get a good test print on the black. She gave me instructions on how to do a head soak which she suggested as the next step but her instructions are not very good. Where can I find good directions on how to do this?

a head soak is basically pinching off the cap top drain and then filling it with cleaning solution and parking the head on top of it. This will allow the cleaning solution to dissolve any ink residue in the nozzles and hopefully un clog some of them for you.
