Ok, well I finally got around to testing out some of the colorprint pu matte which I had picked up at Atlantic City in the spring.  The sample roll has been sitting here for literally months and I had forgotten about it until I ran out of quick print which I use by the ton, and was in panic mode.  I was literally in a bind so I thought I would give it a try........ nightmare city to say the least.  It printed fine, but the masking and applying just simply wouldn't work.  I would squeegee the hell out of it and out of 10 samples I tried, I only could salvage 2, which was what I needed to finish the job.  I even called and spoke to the company to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong, but no I was using the correct mask, and even the 45 degree squeegee action that they insist on and no such luck.  They really had no answer.   So I wasted a ton of time, but reaffirmed why I love quickprint!

Could the results be from it being old?  I have tried it and it masked great for me?  It is VERY stretchy though and I would NEVER use it for small lettering but for something that is a solid piece it worked beautifully.  Just my opinion though.

Hmmmmm geesh I didn't think of that.... if 7 months though is considered old them I am in trouble here, I have quite a few of imprintables samples that I am trying to get to at some point and they are much older than that!  The image I was trying to do had 2 inch high letters and a large oval, no little lettering.  Stretchy is putting it mildly, it was crazy.  I did like the feel of the two that I was able to do, but I am not sure it is worth trying again.

My last batch of PU was a nightmare 2. I was told by my supplier to lay the masked product face down and pull the carrier away from the masked print in a strong quick motion.  Also said to use the heaviest tack masking availiable or to use rhinestone masking.

Yup, tried all that, and yes there was swearing!

There is a bunch of colorprint naming products out there. What I found is to squeegy and peel right away not wait until all are squeegy. Like Butch I have used stone masking and that worked also. There is another colorprint called evolution - thicker but presses well, thin, and no quickprint glue trail. I have also pressed it with no masking and when you remove it from the carrier w/o mask I did not get any distortion. IJS

Like April, I love, love LOVE Siser PU
We both did quite a bit of experimenting months ago with the product

It's tough on small objects (because its so thin) but that's about the only complaint I have........and I've gone through rolls and rolls and rolls of this stuff

Before Stahls yet again changed their mask formula and I was struggling with their magic mask, thank goodness I had PU to turn to.
Now that Stahls has fixed the issue (they never admitted to having in the 1st place), I'm still going to keep PU always in stock

As far as masking goes, I pick the piece up in the air and just slowly and evenly pull each side away from each other
Easy cheesy
For me, this stuff is a dream

Thanks for the comments Lady Di, Been back and forth on it, love QP but want something thinner and stretchier. Gonna order some tomorrow.

May I ask what masking you are using ? I having a heck of a time with masking on this new batch.

I use Siser's evolution mask, Butch

Not to say that isn't the same mask as 20 other ones out there on the market, (who knows?) but for me it works great with PU

Again, my experience only, but you really can't (easily) pull the mask off with traditional methods
The media has a tendency to pull up and wrinkle if you lay it on a table and try to pull up the backing

But if you lift the piece up in the air and slowly pull apart the 2 layers with a slow and steady pull, it works beautifully
As with all masking, you need to watch your stress points
Smaller areas are easier. When you have very large solid areas, it's best to not try and release the mask backing on large multi-ganged images over a large expanse

Also, I should mention that Kathleen, the Siser rep that is a member here on myversacamm was very responsive and helpful with any questions I initially had

I really put this stuff through a battery of testing before I offered it to my customers
And IMHO, It passed with flying colors!

The only problem are tiny objects
It may be that I never did get my cut settings refined but I think it's just too thin (which is a good thing!) to handle the intricate cuts.
If I need something more stable and able to cut teenie tiny stuff, Express print is my go to media of choice.
Now that Stahls finally fixed that outrageous mask problem, between PU, Express print and the occasional solutions Opaque and SubBlock, I pretty much have all my bases (happily) covered

Di

Thanks, thats what my supplier was supposed to have shipped. I'll order some more mask from a different source and see if thats the issue.

I got mine through imprintables.  Used evolution mask and it was great.
