I finished setting up the Imprintables booth at ISA in Las Vegas and had a chance to go visit the Roland booth and get a sneak peek of the new Roland BN-60 20" VersaCAMM that is being unveiled tomorrow. There have been tons of rumors on it and the machine they have here is a prototype but I was able to get a few pictures that will be shared here.

Basics:

Under $8000 - final price still not set

20" print and cut area

Metallic ink option

Matching laminator (separate cost est $1200 range)

1440 x 720 dpi

Table top size

There will be more to come as the week goes by so stay tuned!

Is it essential the same as a 30" versacamm except being smaller in width...? It can print and contour cut, uses the same ink & software..?
very close. The only other factor is that it is slow and I am not sure how they will be treating profiles for the unit. The test prints and demo unit I have seen were very impressive.

No white ink or light CM colors either.

Is not having White, Lm or Lc really an issue for an entry level machine like this?

The SP/VP range do OK with just CMYK.

Personally, I would have preferred no Metallic ink and just CMYK for a lower price.

The latest pricing I have from one supplier here in Aust is around AUD$8800.00 +Tax

Price includes stand, set of inks (220ml), roll of SAV media 510mm x 50m and install.

They advised that some stock was due July 13, but small number of units only, probably to satisfy pre-orders.

Main shipment due August sometime.

I wouldn't say that white or metallic are required for 99% of work to be honest. You'd have to have fairly specialised clients to demand the inclusion of them, so I think CMYK and the bonus of metallic would be more than fine.
The other config that the machine comes in is CCMYK, what's the other C....?

Specs say either CMYK or CMYK-MT.

Where did you see a CCMYK config?

there is an option to use the Cyan cartridge twice for those that do not want metallic at all. CCYMK would be the color mode for that. I personally do not see any advantage to this as it will not change the speed of the machine or any other output.
Interesting... hadn't seen this listed on any spec sheets I've read so far. I agree though... don't see the point of an extra C tank.

It's on the features page... http://www.rolanddga.com/products/printcut/bn/features.asp

I would go with the Metallic, for the "just in case" or even better. Use it and show off the capabilities....

Cheers. Page had been updated since my last look :)
