hello all
new to this forum and relatively new to versacamms.
we are based in the UK and we print soccer/ football name and numbers.
we print onto 'print and cut rapid' from target transfers and also white soldark from magic touch.
we have problems printing large blocks of solid colours especially black and green.
i have been asked by someone what profile i am using?
this may sound really stupid and sorry for my ignorance but what does that mean?
i have also read alot about the colour charts for rolands via versaworks. is there anything for the software colorip?
any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

In versaworks, which I am assuming that you are using to run the machine, you need to choose the "profile" that is correct for the material that you are using. The profile you choose tells the machine the temperature for the ink, dryer time, head spead, and a whole bunch of other things. It is like a recipe that they have programed for specific materials. To access them, double click on the job you want to, and then under the quality tab you will see media type and a drop down list. I am not familiar with any of your materials, so I wouldn't even begin to guess which one to use, but start with a generic such as TTRH which is for heat transfer material. If you haven't been doing this then it is using whatever default profile comes up when you open the program. You could be easily using something for vinyl which would be a nightmare. You really need to watch the videos on setting up versaworks, they will walk you through all of this. You can also try going to the manufacturers website for your media and see if they offer the profiles for them, which you would have to download, but there is also a video on that too. For colors you should be using RGB or roland color library. Always use RGB black\, or else it looks terrible.
Just out of curiosity where did you get your machine and who installed it that they didn't go over this??? I just feel bad because you have been probably wasting a ton of material and time, and I can only assume that your frustration level is over the top!

Many thanks for your response.
We dont use versaworks as the machine is pre-versaworks so i design in coreldraw and export to colorip - which is the software that came with it.
Machine was obtained from a company in north-east england - i'm second user. i went to collect it from their company (printing company) and they showed me it doing a test print and also a pre-designed graphic of theirs just so i could see it running and working.
but no they didn't go over anything - just gave me the machine and manuals and some inks!!!
i have been printing yellows, reds, blacks, blues - all kinds of colours fine in small doses - like for example if it has been a 2 colour design - white main design with coloured outline - machine prints all colours fine.
its when i need to do the 2 colour design in reverse - so dark colour is main design and outline is white.
yes my frustration level is so much so i'm seriously considering ways to raise enough money to buy a more modern machine that works off versaworks.
i was actually led to believe the machine i have (sp300) worked off versaworks and it wasnt until a few months after we had got the machine and was using it that we realised we had been conned.
heyho - life throws us these curve balls.
many thanks for your help Kathy - it seems if i had a machine running offa versaworks i would be a whole lot better off.
regards and thanks alot

So just out of curiosity how do you change your settings such as the temperature, head spead etc, or is it more just like a big giant inkjet printer? Sounds like a nightmare, but if this is the way the machines use to be there has to be someone who can help. Hopefully one of our wonderful techs can shed some light. I'd still though in Coreldraw, which is what I use, make sure you're doing everything in RGB, it has a much better spectrum of colors and you'll be able to print more colors. Also you do need to tell us what the make of the machine actually is.

thanks again
Permalink Reply by Butch on February 20, 2012 at 1:09pm Bec,your machine can be converted to a 300V by a good tech. You would then need to purchase the VW software.
You can configure your media profiles in CR under the configure tab in your software.
A good source for learning about your software is Rolanddga under support - software.
As far as the difference in color from inside color to outside color, I would say that is design software and export import issue. If the design is the same except for the color arrangements it should print the same.

It could very well be a profile issue since you weren't aware that you needed to set one, but there are a ton of other issues that could be giving you trouble as well. Much easier to diagnose when we know what exactly you're dealing with.
