Is anyone else having trouble with the new carrier that Imprintables is using on the QuickPrint?  I had a big rush order for a funeral yesterday and today.  Printed a bunch yesterday using the QP with the old carrier and everything went perfect.  Ran out of that roll and switched to a new one last evening.  Now I'm ruining more than are working.  It keeps jamming up in the printer during the cut phase.  I have tried two different rolls but both with the new carrier and neither are working.  The new carrier seems lighter so maybe that is what is causing the printer problems.  It is a smoky material rather than the heavy clear that I am used to.

Anyone else having trouble?  I just keep seeing $$$'s as I throw about half of it away.

I am not really sure what is going on because I haven't had any problems with quick print. What part is sticking/jamming in the printer when you cut? My suggestion would be to slow down the cut speed tremendously and see if that helps and make sure your cut pressure is correct. Sometimes if it is too much it can jam things up a bit....
Hi Debbie,

I was just about to run a job using QP when I read your message. I pulled out my new roll and used it to see whether I had the same problem. Everything went smoothly, no problems with jamming.

Some things to look at as possible causes:

Adhesive residue on the underside of your media clamps which is causing your media to get caught up.

Vacuum turned off. Not sure whether the vacuum is suppose to be working during cutting. I accidentially turned off my vacuum, and later found that my media was not sitting flat on the printer. This caused the print to be off, and it even caused my blade to catch.
It was printing the entire design and then sometime during the cut process, it was pulling the material up into the rollar on the right side of the machine (when you are facing it). Then the head strikes it and I had to really pull to get it out. It was doing this repeatedly. I can try slowing it down, but I printed 12 of these yesterday and everything was perfect. The only change was the new roll of QP. The new carrier is much lighter than the old one. It is also cloudy instead of a pure clear. When I spoke with the Roland tech, he said that the backing is probably the problem as it is probably too light. He has seen other media do this. I'm going to print some Solutions Opaque tomorrow and see, if it runs fine. I turned off the boundary cut and I was able to get through my rush job.

Just out of curiosity Kevin... is the carrier that you just used clear or cloudy?
make sure that your vacuum is set to 100%. this will help hold it down while printing.
Debbie,

The backing is cloudy. Definitely lighter than the old QP.
The vacuum was set on auto and I was using the QP profile. I changed it to 100%. We'll see how that works. I don't like that new carrier though. I guess I will have to start masking more before I weed as I had letters floating around when I weeded whereas the ones I printed on the old roll weeded just fine.
Debbie,
I always have my printer at 100% vacuum. It seems to hold everything much better. I would check with Imprintables directly as Quickprint is usually the best to work with and weeds like a charm.
I agree.. I love it when it was on the old carrier. The new carrier actually weeds easier, but because of that, it is not holding some of the lettering as well as it used to.
Nope.. I tried with the 100% on the vacuum and if you turn the cut border on, it jams up the machine still. I'll call Imprintables.
Hi Debbie,

Were you ever able to find out what was causing your QP to jam? I just encountered the same problem. The print phase went fine, but when the machine pulled the vinyl back up to start the cut phase, it jammed in the right grit roller. My job was about 34 inches long.

I ran the job a second time, only this time I reduced the length of the job to around 20 inches, and it went off without a hitch. How long was the job you were running?

I think you may be correct in thinking the backing is the culprit. With the thinner more flexible backing, the vinyl is more prone to bending when being pulled back up into the machine. This bending increases the chances of the vinyl getting caught in the rollers. It's kind of like trying to feed an old worn dollar bill into a vending machine, versus a bill which is new and crisp. Okay, bad example, but you know what I mean.
The only thing I have been able to do is to do short runs and I have eliminated the border around the print (which is a pain - much easier to weed with that box surrounding your design). I called Imprintables and they replaced my QP, but the new just came in and has the same carrier. They were supposed to make sure that I got the old clear carrier this time. I need to call Zach back and talk to him again. I am hoping that if enough of us call and complain they will go back to the old carrier which worked perfect for me.
Thanks Debbie,

Did IW indicate whether the thin backing was a permanent thing, or whether they were going back to the thicker backing?
