When this occasionally happens.............

I disable the LAN

Enable the LAN

and everything goes back to normal

But not this time

It's not happening today and I have no idea how to fix it

Di, if the IP settings are all correct, my thought would be a bad network cable.

thanks Butch
IP on the machine and IP in VW are good, they match

Is there somewhere on the computer that I should also be checking?

This LAN business is confusing to me....wish we could just USB plug & play

Di

Most printers connected to a PC can be shared over a network. Unless your printer is not one of these, enable file and printer sharing on the "host" computer and then go into Printers and Faxes, right click on the printer and select 'Sharing ...'. Any 3rd party firewall will need to be uninstalled or configured to allow LAN access.

On the other computers you need to add the printer. One way is to go into Printers and Faxes and 'Add a printer' choosing 'network' and browsing to find the shared printer. The way that works better for me is to
Start - Run - \\ipofPrtPC - OK
where "ipofPrtPC" is the IP address of the PC with the printer.
You should get a window showing the shares on that other PC; right click on the printer and select 'connect.'

Some printers can be connected to a router via a print server. Print servers come in both ethernet and wireless flavors. If you are interested, your homework assignment is to determine if your printer will work with a print server, and which one(s).Just out of curiosity, how old is your network router? If its old you should upgrade to a little bit more 'up-market' stuff which should reduce your chances of getting into these issues. You're saving time and money wasted on fixing problems you shouldn't be facing.

stop going through a router.

Period

I mean it

Go directly from the computer to the printer. This will solve 99% of the problem.

Trust me :)

Oh gosh Steven, I trust you completely but I have no clue how the logistics would work

Ask me a Corel question, and I'll figure it out.
Ask me a computer configuration question and I'm totally blonde

I've got that pesky Ethernet cable plugged directly into a laptop next to the printer
Ive got plenty of other laptops around, but the only desktop computer I have is tucked away in my office, not anywhere near my work area

I'm missing something here, right?
I don't understand
I can't be the only one that uses a laptop

clueless Lady Di

Di, turn off your machine, I mean all the way off, unplug and push power button to empty the capacitors, reboot your computer also, plug in your machine and restart, it should work. Did you do the update today? if you did that's the issue it happens to me all the time.

thanks John
I'll try first thing in the morning
I shut down but I stopped short of physically unplugging

If I go anywhere near my workspace right now, I'll smash something, for sure
Can't remember the last time I've been so totally aggravated

I'll let you know how I make out

Di
Hello world, I'm back.
Lady Di two quick things. Ensuring IP on CAMM and in VW is only part. Also make sure that the PC card has a dedicated IP address and is static - you set that in card properties under IP4.
If all that is done then disable card and reenable. That should get you working.
So let's say it is not - disconnect and reconnect the network cables - sometimes they need to be reseated
Let me know - not sure why I did not get an email lol

oh my dear Knight, I'm not sure why you didn't get a personal panic SOS, either.

Just goes to show how totally crazed I was yesterday.

I can't tell you how many hours I mucked with this

I finally just came to my senses. Turned the computer off and walked away.

Fast foward to this morning.

Armed with new resolve, fortified by some well needed sleep, I boldly marched down and pressed the same START button that I had pressed a bazillion times before

See, this is the part that drives me up the flippin' wall

Yep, you guessed it.

All is well

All is fine

All is working

Status READY

??????????????????????????????????????

??????????????????????????????????????

I did NOTHING

Well, I did nothing but finally walk away

I'm giving you all the credit, Irv

Coming back to my 'world' was all it took

xoxoxoxoxoxo

Your thankful lady in waiting

Lol - speechless - Nuffield sed - smh
