HI

We are getting the 30 inch laminator and after a call to imprintables the paper only comes in I think he said 51 inches.  Where can I get 30 inche paper for my machine?  Has anyone else run into this problem?

thanks for any information.

April you might have to do the cut down method. You can check with Fellers who might have a larger line, but if not - Tape securely masking tape around where you want to cut and cut through the tape with a radial arm saw or chop saw. See if they have a 60" and cut it in half oppose to having a 30 and a 21 minus the waste.

April, I'm confused
Paper? Are you really looking for paper? or are you looking for laminate?

If you're looking for 30 inch laminate, plenty of suppliers sell it. Have you googled or looked in your sign supply catalogs?
I'm not at my desk right now to send you links but I know for a fact I've ordered 30 inch or less laminate from several different places
Some places will even cut it for you for a nominal charge
If youre going to get it cut, I'd suggest a 54 inch roll cut in half so you don't have to muck with that laminate going right to the edge of your rollers

Leaving an inch or 2 margin on your (printed) vinyl really isn't any big deal and may save you tons of grief
An inch of wiggle room is well worth the price of the insurance

Maybe you couldn't find it because you weren't googling laminate?

No I am talking about the paper you use with the laminate.  I called today and ordered laminate and tried to order the paper to and it comes in 51 inces I really would prefer not to have to cut it. So I was wondering where anyone else got 30 inch and if they did get any.

okay, I'm really confused now

What kind of paper do you use with a laminator?

Except for an extra piece (of something or other) that I sometimes need to add to the end of the vinyl run, I can't imagine what you need paper for?

I don't understand what laminator paper is?

am I having a severe 'blonde' moment?

Ok I don't know if I can explain it because I only saw it at Steve's.  But It does something for you. Something goes on it.  I know good explanation.  May Irv or Steve can explain it better. LOL.

April- are yo talking about the brapper paper that keeps the laminate from sticking to the rollers and the laminator? Fellers calls it brapper paper- its looks like the paper sacks at the grocery store use to use only it is thinner and has a coating on one side. On our RS laminator it loads under the front feed tray goes through the rollers where it meets up with lt laminate and if aligned right the laminate sticks to it and not the laminator. Fellers sells in in 32 or 34" and 56" wide rolls. Trust me it makes laminating great.

Ah, thanks Larry, now I understand

I never use it
I'm a hoarder and save all the backing and excess vinyl, messed up vinyl, whatever......

There's always plenty of something hanging around to run through the machine
Instead of chucking the waste, I keep a pile of it and grab what I need, when I need it
Even regular old butcher paper works fine and I always have a ton of that around

Larry that is exactly what April means - some call it kraft paper.

Lady Di the roller you have in the front of  your laminator would be where you put the roll. As stated it is used to keep the laminate off of the rollers if it is longer than the media. Saves a lot of hassle if used.

Yes that stuff.  Does anyone make a 30 inch so I don't have to have it cut?

Yes they do check with Fellers they have it as I seem to but it weekly. It is like 32 or 34" wide.

Larry

I know what you're saying Irv but I buy laminate that is about an inch or so less wide than my vinyl
That way the only brapper (or any kind of paper) I need is only the couple of inches to add to the end of the run
For me anyway, there's no reason to buy special stuff

So far I've managed to avoid laminating a skinny strip that would then need to be backed all the way through

Do i hear you mumbling.........Frugal? Cheap?
lol

I have a Daige 30" laminator, use nothing but 30" laminate from Fellers, and tried using a paper under a print only once...it slid all over the place. Since then if I'm running 30" vinyl, I can do it with no problem. If I have to run smaller stuff, I use a piece of coroplast 30"-32" wide as a 'sled' a couple inches longer than the image area. Back off the tension rollers a bit, and run it through. Then I can easily cut the laminate around the image or sign or magnet with an Xacto knife if it isn't something going back to the versacam for contour cut.
