Yesterday I was about to do a thorough cleaning on the 540. However I must have been really stupid and pressed the wrong commands... The machine now says "ink not filled" (the ink cartidges are full and still connected) and I can't seem to get back to the ordinary cleaning procedure menu. If I try to press '"Enter" it simply says "Stopped to protect motor" or something like that, I don't remember right now.... I am confused and annoyed! :-)

What to do ????? Anyone ??

Have you tried a manual reset with the power switch on the back of the unit? I know it seems simple but that works for me when I get funky errors.
Thanks.
Yes, I've tried. But as soon as I power it up it returns to the same "Ink not filled".
OK... managed to enter the cleaning menu and had the wipers changed. But upon powering back up, it still reads "ink not filled".
Are you using a third party ink system or the Roland cartridges? You may have to get with a local tech and get into the service menu to run through an ink charge of the system.
This is a modified version of the Roland 540 by a Danish company called Asbru.

I'm using original Asbru ink.
I would contact them as I have not been able to find anything in the tech manual I have. It was suggested that it was due to a third party ink system to me by another tech. Sorry!
PROBLEM SOLVED!
Our always helpful local supplier/serviceman Kurt from ATAC came over on Saturday afternoon and fixed clogged ink tubes and did a thorough cleaning and new setup.. He also changed ink - we now use the Bordeaux Eco-Sol ink. Saves money and the result is superb. What more can you ask for. :)
