Whenever i have a file that contains rgb colors they come out very faint and dull when printed. Is there an easy way to convert the whole file to cmyk color all at once? When converting from X$ to eps I was told not to use an icc profile, would using a profile correct the problem? If so, which is the best to use?

I origianlly had issues with bitmap images and selecting rgb for the bitmap export in eps settings fixed that but it doesn't do anything for vectors. Some of the file that I receive from customers have to many different colors to go through and change every color manually.

Peter,
Are the colors that they are sending rgb or are they pantone colors? Versaworks sees anything that is a pantone color or an rgb file and will process then to a cmyk value. If your using any processing of those in Corel then it is duplicating the process that will occur in versaworks and you will end up having colors that are washed out and dull. Make sure that your exporting any raster file as an rgb and that any vectors are in CMYK right in corel and do not use any icc profile when exporting. This should get your colors back to good!

Hope this helps!

I have tried both with an ICC profile selected and without and I get the same result either way.

I received a pdf file from someone making a poster for our store. When I open the pdf file the colors are vary vibrant. If I import that file into Corel the colors look the same as the pdf file. If I export the file as an eps file they become very dull, but if I publish to pdf the look the same as the original. I have attached my eps settings, maybe there is something I am doing wrong there.

Peter,
The settings look correct but I would have to ask why you are trying to export it as an eps? I would just print the pdf via versaworks unless there is some editing to be done. Can you post the pdf file so I can see if I can replicate the issue on my end?

Thanks,

Steven
I thought I read on here somewhere that results weren't very good when printing bitmaps through pdf files. I guess I'll try the pdf file and see how it prints.
I have had great success with printing pdf files directly through versaworks. I have a wholesale client that does a lot of posters and sends me all of their files in pdf format.
I did a small test this morning and here is a scan of my results.

If I export as a pdf file and convert all colors to RGB they turn out as I would expect them to. If I export as eps, the Pantones remain constant but the eps and cmyk colors get very dull.

Is it possibly a color management issue in Corel? The colors look very similar on the screen as the RGB printout. When I input a spot color off of the Versaworks chart it looks completely different on the screen. I currently have color management turned off in corel.

Here are the other files as well if it helps.

I will try to print them and see what I can come up with.

Thanks,

Steven,

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I've had soooo many problems with exporting from corel to versaworks. I never know what colors will come out. My grays are often more green or brown than gray, and blues come out purple sometimes. What shall I do to keep the colors as they are in corel? Should I convert all to spot? Or should I convert all to cmyk? I added the Versaworks color chart to my corel, but when I convert colors to the Versaworks palette, they just disappear on the screen and the only way I can see them is in normal mode.
Larry,
It looks like I have another video that needs to be made! Until then, I would recommend that you keep all vector object colors in Corel as CMYK and all raster as RGB. Make sure that when you export that it does not convert colors to spot colors and that it maintains bitmaps as RGB. This will help with most problems. The Roland color library is another way of getting colors exact. You can print out the color swatches from Versaworks and then use them as a reference when selecting the CMYK values. I could never get the library to work in Corel with X4 and down but in Corel X5 it is embedded in the spot color library and works perfectly! I will try to get that into a video and show how the whole process works soon.

Hope this helps!

It seems that my issue with color matching is related to Color Management settings. I changed from off to Adobe RGB 1998 as the Central color setting, US Web coated for the printer profile and my monitor profile and the results I was getting as RGB converted colors show on the screen exactly as they were printing.

So my question now is what are the best settings to realistic looking colors on screen? Secondly, What is the best way to convert from rgb color to cmyk without the color management having an affect on color.

To get the pallete to show up and work properly in Corel you have to replace the userinks.cpl file on your computer with the one on the VersaWorks cd and then use the Pallete browser to open it.
