Timothy welcome to MYVC and happy camming. It is hard to tell without hearing the sound. When the pump works it clears the captop and pulls ink from the lines into the dampers and the heads. There is a clucking sound that is normal. If the pump was not secured properly, then there could also be a noise of the pump hitting the housing when it starts. Why don't you post a picture of your nozzle test. Then I can see if you pump is working - that will not evaluate the noise however. BTW - did he state whether he or a tech replaced it.
maybe take a video with your smartphone and post it here - that way we can hear what it sounds like?
+1 for Irv's suggestion of the test print. It will tell us a lot.
I believe he installed it himself, sorry im not very good at video editing and could not compress the video down to a size i could upload so i had to separate the audio. the loud popping noise is the pump
