Ok, I just tried importing the pdf  file that Gene is having problems with the solutions clear and it reminded me of a problem I'm having.   Why when I try and import a pdf file if I don't have the exact fonts of the file why do I get the screen asking what I want to replace the font with??? I click on import text as curves.     I thought that this was the whole idea around pdf files, that it converts fonts so anyone can view the original.  This has happened with several customer files that I send them or they send me and they fonts are whacky.   This just made me think of it so I thought I'd ask.

When generating a PDF, you can choose to embed the fonts, convert text to curves, or do neither and hope the other person has the font. If it needs to be edited by the person receiving the PDF, you need to either embed the font (which I would imagine increases the file size), or include the font files along with the PDF. If it doesn't need to be edited, converting to curves will do the trick.

thanks Mike!  I figured it had to be on the end of the person creating the file, but I had a customer who is a "graphic designer"  who kept trying to convince me that I should be able to open her PDF files with no problem and that I was doing something wrong :-)

If your opening or importing into Corel, it will be as Mike described
If you 'place' it in Illy you can convert the fonts to curves yourself

If you don't have Ilustrator, you can open the file in Ghostscript/Ghostview and do the same thing and basically convert the font to curves

Of course, you can view it in Adobe reader but that 'curves/text' dialog box in Corel is for the most part, meaningless

Sory to be the bearer of bad news

........hi girl, long time no hear from you Hope all is well

Thanks Di!  Yes I'm back ;-)    I do have illustrator so I will try that. That's what this graphics design chick uses so she is totally baffled why it doesn't work with corel.    She " never has issues sending pdf files to her customers", as she has told me many times now!

thanks again!

Kathy

Don't you just love those 'graphic artists" ?

Try this:

[1] Place (don't open or you'll get the same error message with defaulting fonts that you get in Corel) the pdf in Illy

[2] Go to Object/Flatten transparency and check the box that says "Convert all Text to Outlines"

That should get you the pdf all in curves.

Ghostscript conversion is a little more complicated, if you need those instructions let me know.

.....missed you. Glad you're back!

xoxoxo
