Okay, not sure if this will make sense but I am going to attempt. I have done decals and bumper stickers but my question is how do you make them look professional?  Like if you have done a complicated decal and have contour cut it. how do cut the entire backing? so that it is not just peeled off a big white square? I hope that made some sense and someone will know what I mean.

Thanks

Most of my clients don't really care whether the backing gets cut to uniform sizes. I use a large heavy ruler and a razor blade and cut them as best I can. For those that are a little more particular, I include small corner marks around my design. After printing, I use a straightedge and razor to cut the decals into individual pieces, using the corner guides as my cut marks. I then weed each decal separately. It's a lot more time consuming, but if that's what the customer wants...

I'm not sure I understand exactly, but I did a really intricate car decal. What I did was print the decal using the mark and alighnment marking setting. I then took it out and laminated it. After laminating, I put it back into the VC and did the cutting. I took it out and weeded all of the small pieces out. I then applied a sign mask to it. I left the VC backing on it. When the customer came in, I explained to them that they just needed to clean the surface, pull it off of the VC backing and apply it to the car. After they had it on the car real good, then just peel away the sign masking. This was really intricate, so there was no way they could have pulled it off as a decal and applied it. Is this what you were asking?
Teresa,
You can cut the backing using the PerfCutContour spot color and adjusting the settings in Versaworks. I have not done it yet myself and have heard mixed reviews on it. I will have to give it a whirl and let you know the results. Other than that, i would go along with Kevin in that our customers know they are getting a custom decal and do not mind the backing around the design. I could outsource to Stouse and get it custom cut around the design for a lot more and they do not want to pay for that! Let me know if that was what you are looking for.

Hope this helps!

Hi Steven
Yes that is what I am talking about. I know another company that cuts them but it does not look like they cut with scissors, they are very detailed images that would take forever to cut by hand but I know he prints his own stuff
I will see if I can do some testing with the perfcut feature and let you know the results.
