Glitter print

We were printing on glitter print and noticed that the material was sticking to the media clamps as the material rolled forward. Before we knew it, a media clamp broke loose and caused a head crash/motor error -- not good. IW told us that this occasionally happens and if it does, remove the meida clamps and don't sheet cut. Be aware of this.

Agreed Dennis.

We use a fair amount of glitter print for one of our cheer customers and never ever use the media clamps.

I've found that the material is so heavy, it lays down nice and flat with just the pinch rollers

If you have a design/layout that you really think you need to use the media clamps, much like we (sometimes) do with static cling.................I run a strip of Scotch transparent tape along the perimeter.

The media clamps don't kick and balk if they're running over the tape.

With cling, sometimes I double print or have a bigger image than I usually print with glitter.

Because the media has to go back & forth several times, over a larger expanse, I don't trust just having the rollers (can you tell I hardly ever bother to move my black rear stops?).

When I get those kind of projects, I pull out the roll of Scotch tape.

Works like a dream.

We remove the media clamps for metallic print & glitter print; Glitter print is what had bent one of our media clamps

Thanks Jen, we would never have known about the metallic. I suggested to IW that it consider including infomation like this in the sheet that accompanies material sent to customers. It could eliminate some headaches and reinforce the strong customer service that helps differentiate IW from some of its competitors.

There are many other medias on the market that can have issues similar to this. Usually you can tell as the media clamps will "chatter" as it moves across them. I always test new materials and have made the "confidence" mistake a few times as in "I know how this works and don't need to test" attitude. Bites me in the butt from time to time!

I will be much more vigilant about this issue in the future, just like I am with the end-of-the-roll issue.
