Hi all,

I have a few questions regarding floor graphics...

1)Do you always laminate indoor floor graphics?

2)Can you use the same laminate as decals, etc for floor graphics?

3)Do you cut to the edge of the laminate and graphic or do you leave a 1" border of laminate around the the graphics

I've never done a floor graphic, so I have no business even trying to answer your question, Joe.

All I know is that I've seen laminate tagged for floor vinyl.....and I guess I just assumed that it would have a slip resistent surface to help prevent folks from landing on their butts.

I'm also thinking (but I don't know for sure), that you should extend the laminate passed the print a bit.

Joe, floor graphics need to be laminated. I would also recommend going with a non slp laminate that is embossed. Doing an area of over the edge laminate will help keep the graphic down.
Just guessing, but for the laminate over the edge, you would need to do an encapsulation, correct? Also, do you actually need to load 2 rolls of laminate to do an encapsulation, or can you lam one side, trim to size and remove the backing paper, then flip it and re-lam it? Seems like it would be a PITA to get it loaded for "proper" encapsulation, not to mention you would need 2 rolls of the same laminate.

Can you explain encapsulation to me?

Thanks

You do not need to encapsulate the design. If it was encapsulated ( laminated on both sides) it would not be able to be applied to a surface. To over laminate the edges you will need to have the design made with 2 cutlines, the one on the edge of the graphic, and another one about half an inch out from the edge. Print and cut the job with registration marks and then remove the ring of media that was cut between both sets of cutlines.
Laminate the job and then send it back with the same design and setup without the inner set of cutlines that were on the edge of the graphic. It will only cut the second outer setof cutlines this time. When you look at that finished design there will be a half inch of laminate that extends past the outer edge and allows for better adhesion and protection.
