Hey everybody, I'm needing a printable material that could be used as a flag. I can get in a nylon flag and just heat press the thing but it has WAY too much detail to make it worth our time to try that. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions on it. The flags are 3"x5"

short rolls would be nice!  lots of $$ otherwise.  Thanks Richard.
Has anyone ever tried Neschen's PureColor Media "Apollo Flag"? It has fabic-ee feel to it and is see through so your print shows up on both sides(although one side is reversed). It has the backing so the ink doesn't run everywhere also. I picked up their little sample booklet and saw it in there. Attached is a picture.

I really like almost all of Neschen's materials though they are quite expensive on a lot of things. I have tried both and found 3p to have a brighter white. 3p also has a full line and would not be surprised if they weren't made from the same raw material provider as Neschen and intellicoat.
Could someone forward to me the address or contact info for the Neschen and Lexjet? Your flag material sounds a lot like the 'artist cloth' I have been looking for, for several years now. What I was getting was on a 30" roll, NO backing needed-it was soft hand and silky but just perfect for running through the SP300V without a backing.
I just ordered a bit of the flag material and will be testing it soon. I will post up results and hopefully will have it for this weeks class.

post pictures steve

oh I will!
If you still have the sample cloth material I sent you, compare and see if it's similar...I had never thought of looking for 'flag material' to print on. Doesn't matter if it 'bleeds' through the back-I just want 'kodak quality' picture reproduction and the ability to 'stretch' it on wood frame without splitting or cracking it. Let me know! And also when you get info, could you post what widths they will sell it in?
Can do Roland!

Steve do you have any results of printing on this flag material yet? I just ordered a sample roll to try printing flags for a sand drags club. I am going to print full black and leave the lettering void of color that way I have white lettering on a black flag. Should have the material next week and will post any reults. Thought I would see what you have discovered so far Steve. Anyone else have any thoughts on this material and using it for flag on racing sand buggys?

Thanks

Larry

I've been luke-warm on my results so far on the 3P TruColor Flag.  3P hasn't provided a profile and thus far I've been getting color results that are more pastel than POP.  Black has been especially challenging - I'm getting gray and when you add any sunlight (it is a flag after all) then it looks *really gray*.  I also haven't been getting the 90% on the backside color show thru.  I tried some other profiles that laid down more ink - got much better results on the back side.  (You do need to be careful that you don't put down too much ink or it bleeds (lose detail & sharpness)).

Color retention with washing has been great; the hand of the material improves slightly with washing (its got a lot of body and not much drape). For those that haven't bought the material yet, the material weave is kinda coarse and open.  You'll definitely want it with the paper liner.  If you're looking for a smooth drapy material, this is not it.  If anyone knows of a smooth drapy material that I can get good show-thru on the backside, please let me know.

I've finished the material with a rolled hem on a serger just fine (it does want to stretch a bit in one direction, use your differential for those sides).  I've also used the 2mm shell hemmer on my regular machine - works too, I just didn't care for the "shell" finish and I don't think this narrow a hem will be as durable in a stiff breeze.    I think the material *itself* will be very durable for sand buggys just give yourself a solid hem that is double-folded (or use a 4 or 6 mm hem foot that rolls the material twice).

If anyone has some profile settings/suggestions to make the colors on this material pop, please chime in (or upload the profile, please).
