Has anyone used the ink from Feller's? They are substantially cheaper at about $70 less per set of 220ml cartridges and they all claim to be more durable but I'm hesitant to use anything other than roland ink. Also, we mostly do apparel printing, would that make a difference?

Peter,
I would not recommend anyone using anything other than Roland inks. If you use any other inks, you will need to flush all of your lines, re-prime the system, and then test all of the profiles. Profiles are created using the roland inks so your colors may be off from what you expect. The biggest reason to stay away is that it will void your warranty on the machine. Print heads cost $800 each and are affected by non Roland inks. I see this discussion from time to time on different boards and usually the person who switches to another ink manufacturer comes back to Roland inks after a while. I have heard some success stories out there but not too many. Just my 2 cents.

I buy 90% of my supplies from Fellers, and asked them if they had a Versacamm ink cartridge and was told 'no'...reason being according to them that Roland won't let anyone sell supplies if they don't sell the machines. Also was told they didn't have enough demand to warrant it. Did not see any cartridges listed for the versacamm in Fellers...what cartridge is it?
I too would be hesitant to use a substitute and risk damage to the heads or clogging the pumps...but I have been able to negotiate better prices through my suppliers at times-by buying multiple cartridges at once. Always worth asking!
