Cut alignment considerably off... how to fix?

This is my first try printing on clear material.

When I run the print cut alignment on the machine, the squares come out cut almost perfect.  However, the job I ran at closing yesterday did not.  Since it's on clear I didn't think a photo would work so I used the file that I'm doing to illustrate.  The vertical alignment is good, but the horizontal alignment is off by a lot.  Since he printer alignment I ran was great, I don't know what to do to fix this!

Any advice or assistance would be wonderful!

I tried setting the media type to a different option and the cutting lined up with the printing a lot better.  However I have no clue as to why that worked!  Why if the cutting was about .25" away from location was the printing on each setting identical?

check your'e queue A or B properties and make sure under the file format tab that the eps margin is set to .10

if it is set to 0 it can have the effect you describe

just double click on the A or B folder (whichever you are using) and the queue properties dialog box will open

Well, it is set to 0.   Does that still matter when printing from pdf files?

Also, these labels are only 1.25"x.5" so having a .1" margin seems like a bit much.

What does it mean by eps margin?

I do not think the EPS margin is the culprit here. It only applies to EPS files and should not affect the alignment but would give a margin around the graphic to prevent it clipping an edge and not getting a complete cut. 

Can you post the file that is giving you issues so we can look it over?  How old is the machine? what unit? Have you had it consistently do this or only on this run?

It's a VS-540 and the company bought it back in the end of March this year.  So still very new and I'm still very green.  This is the only time I have had this happen.

I had called some tech support guys and one of them told me to use the Advanced Cut Controls under Cut alignment.  I tried one like that and the corners came out with arches, but with the alignment set as high as it would go (not as high as the cut was off), it did at least barely get the print in the label cut. 


What did work, was changing the media type.  I had modified the file to be just one set of proofs instead of the long line of them with different colors going all the way down the media.  When I put that file in, I selected a different clear media type (by mistake actually) than I had  initially and the cut lined up.

when printing and cutting a pdf , if you have not designated a cutline your cut will be the edge of the pdf if cut boundary is selected therefore if you have a white border that is offset that is what will cut

What I was printing and cutting was a strip about 8.5" x 1.5" with 13 proof labels that are 1.25" x .5" with rounded corners within that larger rectangle.  These are all cut contour lines.  The media size of the pdf was about .125"  larger than the cut rectangle.

Here it is.  The type is actually a little closer to the bottom than I wanted it, but the cut wasn't aligning 100% after the media type change, and changing the art just a little was a good enough fix.

Elizabeth - the file looks fine. I wonder if you have ever cleaned the encoder strip? This could also throw it off a bit.

No, I haven't.  I also wouldn't know how and am not sure what I'd be looking for even.  I can try checking the manual a little later today...

IF the photo/artwork was originally a bitmap not a vector file there can be a boundary which you may not be able to see in all the other view modes in Corel, except for wireframe mode. So checking an artwork in different view modes to ensure that are unwanted is crucial.
