I'm tired of working with Corel/Versacamm on my small laptop and am going to buy a new PC (with an enormous screen to help my old eyes!).  Since Phil connected my PC to the Versacamm during the install, I have NO clue how to do this on my new computer.  How hard is this to do, and are there any video/picture tutorials for doing this?  I need the Cliff's Notes version!  :)

Thanks!

Diane

Yes, please KISS for dummies like me! :)
I was using the KISS technique...that's why I suggested the switch.

Honestly...I think the switch is much easier. You just plug it in..no configuring. It's just like adding a 6-port outlet to your wall to add more power outlets.

With a second card, you'll need to install it, install drivers, configure the card, etc, etc. This just seams like more work.

I do understand if you don't want to run an ethernet cable from your router. and you want to use wireless to reach the internet, but I was just trying to make it super simple to install.

Anyways, the new PC will probably come with a built in ethernet card, so if you buy a seperate wireless adapter, I'd suggest a USB one. This way you don't need to open your PC to install it.

Just my $0.02 again.

By the way, if you can create graphics, operate a Versacamm, make posters, banners, decals, wraps, and garments, I wouldn't say you're a dummy at all :-D
Thanks again for your advice, Joseph.

I actually tried a USB wireless card with my other computer that is in the same room as the VC, and it constantly lost its connection. I already ordered the PC and internal wireless card from my local computer store, so I guess if it's too difficult, I can always buy the switch as a last resort.

LOL - I do feel like a "dummy" when it comes to setting up computers and peripherals. (I don't do wraps yet either). ;)
Hi Diane,

This is a problem I see to often...Router in the far corner of the house, and wanting to receive signal through five layers of walls. If you are having problems with the USB wireless device, I'm not sure how much better the card will be. The USB one sometimes works well because it comes with a nice long cable that you can move around...like an antenna. The card is in the PC, which is usually under some desk, where the signal sometimes gets blocked.

Anyways, if you decide to ditch the wireless, but still don't want to run wires, there are several other options. One simple way is something called PowerLineAV. Awhile back when it was new, there were some issues, but now, it's been pretty reliable. Basically you use the power lines in your house to transfer your data. The little kit is about $100. You plug one module into the wall near the router and the other module into the wall where where you PC is.

This has nothing to do with the actual Versacamm connection, just a way to get you connected to the internet when your router is far away and you're fed up with the wireless connection going up and down.

Of course the most reliable way, would be to simply run a cable down from the router to your workroom.
Good news - I have my new computer and am getting 4 out of 5 bars signal strength...works great - whew! :)

In case anyone else is in the same situation, I got a StarTech 54 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter Card, and the little antenna is strong enough to receive a signal through a floor and two walls.

Steven: If your offer still stands, please let me know when you have time to help me connect my Versacamm. Thank you!
Diane,
The offer stands! I will be available this afternoon. I will send you a pm with info.
I'm back up and running again. Thanks for your help yet again, Steven!

When I get some time, I will try and recall the steps we took to connect the VC to my computer so that I can post these for others. I know it seems simple to Steven since he does this all the time, but IP addresses are a foreign language to me! :)
Diane,

Did that StarTech Wireless Adapter have the little antenna directly on the card, or did it come with a wire with the antenna base on the end so you can move it wherever to get a better signal?
The antenna is connected to the computer/card with a wire, so I can move the antenna within an approximate 2 ft radius around the PC.
