For general artwork proofs, we take the corel draw file and create a password protected pdf (so no one can take the artwork) or a jpg image email it to the customer for written approval. They either need to reply to the email saying artwork approved or fax back the paper with a signature on it. Do use Corel?

Hi Jenn, I use illy, but I imagine I can do the same thing....Thanks :-)

How do you password protect the pdf?

Thanks

P.S.  You must have gotten more snow last night.  It looks like a sub-zero temperature for Sunday night.

In Illustrator you do a Save As and when the PDF settings window comes up you click Security in the window at left.  In here you are given the choice to require a password then set that password to open the document.  You can also click the choice of using a password to restrict editing and permissions.  If you choose this you can also limit printing to low resolution or none.

If you are using Acrobat Distiller you are given these same choices and one more.  I will allow you to Encrypt all document contents which will not allow search engines to access the metadata.  You'll see your choices once you try to save and click the security settings.  Hope this helps.

I use CorelDRAW; but, I used your directions to figure out how to do password protection.  I learned something new today.

Thanks

P.S.  Thanks Jen for bringing this up.

We do PDF if they have email.  If not we make a print for sign off.  We use Illustrator too.  You can create a PDF from Illustrator but I prefer using Adobe Acrobat Distiller.
