Auto Clean Feature

The girl I purchased my used Roland SP300V, told me I had to leave the media lever in the down position for the auto clean to work. In other words the machine must think there is media loaded.  I have not read this anywhere else. I have read this will cause the rollers to flatten and you should not do it. 

Also does the machine realize you have used it and  waits another 24 hours to do this auto clean or does it do it every 24 hours regardless?

Still new, but going well if I can just get a good black color! Do most of you use the Roland color matching to get good colors? Just loaded that palette with my new copy of Corel X5. I had been using X3.

Greetings Connie and welcome to the CAMM Family. Unfortunately you were misinformed. The machine will do its auto clean regardless, whether you are using the machine or not. Leaving the rollers in the down position could cause flat spots over a period of time with some other factors added. Your model is one of the earlier series and could be more prone to the flat spots in not taken care of.

Next issue colors. You are not getting a true black since you are probably using a CMYK palette. Switch to a RGB palette and you would think you have a new machine. The X5 comes with a Roland Palette and I use those with great success, but there are some specific guidelines to get consistent results. Search our archives for some exhaustive posts on how to do that. But first you will need to print the chart, because what you see on the monitor is not what is coming out of your printer. When printing the chart your queue must be preset and something is telling me you might not have received those instructions. I have to run now but we covered that here already also. Get a jump on reading that so that all the other help to follow will have an attachment point. Will check back shortly.

Great to know I don't have to leave the rollers down.

I have printed out the Roland color chart and did some reading and believe I can now figure out how to get a good black, and navy instead of purple! If you don't always use the Roland chart, did you print out an RGB chart to help in choosing your colors?

Keep your fingers crossed for me. I am sure I will have more questions forth coming.

Connie plenty of great help on this site and I should be around a little more - have been on an unapproved hiatus for a while. Yes I have printed an RGB chart as well - actually Steve did it for me. When printing your Roland chart you needed to have selected 'Density Control' in the queue prior to printing to have the color come out properly. If you find that your colors look different than the chart that would be the reason. Crossing fingers once I finish typing. See you down the road.

The video does say to use the Prepress setting.

Go to Job settings, Quality, Color Management, your default is prepress arrow down Density Control is the last one.

Thanks Butch - off doing work. Connie it is exactly what Butch said - but it has to be done in the Queue A settings prior to selecting the chart to print. Once you set the queue up you can then open VW go to the top Media menu and select the chart you want. It will automatically send it to the A Queue and allow you limited changes. Quality is not one so that is why you have to set it in the Queue. When normal printing - the VW will recognize you are using Roland Spot color and automatically use density control on those areas only. Also remember in your Queue to turn on Convert Spot Colors under the File Format Tab.

Found it. I guess I now have to print out a new chart! So is it my understanding that it is OK if all things in Queue A print with the "Density Control Only" setting chosen, even if you are not using the Roland Color chart?

I changed the queue settings back to prepress after printing the chart since prepress is what I use most often.

That is so confusing. Why print the chart with one setting, then all your jobs that might be using a Roland color with another setting? What does the setting prepress even mean?
